Does HouseSense send my home data to an AI service?

No. The app writes a text you can take to whichever AI you choose yourself — there is no AI service the app sends anything to on its own.

What the design feature actually does

Many people expect "AI interior design" to mean the app sends your home up to the cloud and gets a suggestion back. That is not how HouseSense is built. The feature works the other way round: it gathers what the app knows about the room and writes it out as a clear, structured text.

The text contains the kind of detail that makes an AI answer useful instead of generic: the room's dimensions, the ceiling height, where the doors and windows sit, which compass direction the windows face, and the choices about style and mood you have ticked yourself. That text you can copy and use wherever you like.

The benefit of that model is not just privacy. It is also that you can see exactly what is being asked. A text you can read through before you send it is a different thing from a suggestion that comes out of a black box.

What happens once you send the text on yourself

Here we should be honest about where the line runs. HouseSense can decide what the app itself does. The app cannot decide what happens to a text you paste into another service yourself.

Paste the text into an AI provider, and their terms apply to it: how it is stored, for how long, and whether it is used for training. That is worth knowing before you hit send — especially if you have added something you wrote yourself that says more about your home than measurements and compass points.

Two things reduce that to a non-issue for most people:

• Read the text through before you send it. It is written to be readable. Is there something you would rather not hand over, you can delete it first.
• Leave the address at home. An AI suggestion for a room needs its dimensions and the direction its windows face — not to know where the house is.

The language in the prompt — and why that is not a mistake

The text the app produces is in English, even when you use HouseSense in another language. That is deliberate: language models generally respond better to English instructions. In return, the text ends with an instruction to answer in your own language, so you get the answer back in the language you use.

Want to keep writing on the text yourself? You can safely continue in your own language at the bottom. The model understands both.

The reports can be taken along on paper

Need the text somewhere other than a chat window — with an interior designer, a kitchen supplier, or just in a folder? HouseSense can write it out as a PDF together with the room's figures. Then you have the brief as a file you own, rather than as a conversation inside a service you don't.

There is no HouseSense server to send it to

The underlying reason the app does not send your home data anywhere — neither to an AI nor to anything else — is that there is nowhere for it to go. HouseSense has no user account, no server of its own and no tracking. The homes live on your device and in your own private iCloud under your own Apple ID, where the developer has no access.

That holds true when you use the design feature too: the room's data stays where it is. The only thing that can move is the text you choose to copy out yourself.

How to get a useful answer without handing over too much

A few practical pointers if you want to use an AI to furnish a room:

1. Give the measurements, not the address. "3.4 × 4.2 m, 2.45 m to the ceiling, windows facing south-west" is exactly what makes the answer concrete.
2. Mention the fixed obstacles. Radiator under the window, a door that swings into the room, a sloped ceiling along one wall. Those are what make weak suggestions fall apart.
3. Ask for measurements on the suggestions. Otherwise you get "a sofa by the window" instead of "a 2.2 m sofa with an 80 cm walkway in front".
4. Check it against the floor plan. An AI suggestion is a suggestion. Place the furniture on the floor plan and see whether the walkways hold up — it is the drawing, not the language, that decides whether it actually fits.

HouseSense does not send your home data to an AI service. The app writes a text with the room's measurements and your wishes, which you can take to whichever AI you choose — and you can read it through first. Once the text moves on, that service's terms apply, so leave the address at home. The home itself stays on your device and in your own private iCloud.
